Community in the Corner was set up with the idea of creating a fortnightly, regular listening space where students could express their loves, concerns and ideas about their university life both on and off campus. As a students union, we pride ourselves on the student voice, so this space aimed to further this by giving students an opportunity to have a say and become engaged in SU activities.
Projects arising:
The Pineapple Collective: This project began from a listening with two girls who were passionate about all things healthy and wanted to set up a Well-being society that brought like-minded people together to take part in fun and engaging activities.
As Valentina (our community organiser at GP campus) had recently supported an art student with a meditation group we thought it would be a great opportunity to bring them together to collaborate on a well-being event to coincide with Know My Neighbour Week. This event was a huge success and involved over 15 students in meditation exercises, smoothie making and arts and crafts, helping to alleviate stress during the busy exam period.
