I began listening on Stonefield Road September 3rd 2014. The road is well kept and in a central location. Some neighbours take part each year in a Greener Garden competition organised by one local resident. Both sides are terraced houses with houses on the eastern sides having small front and rear gardens. The pavement on the eastern side is also raised approx 6 foot from street level with steep steps at intervals down to the street. The residents were a mix of social housing, private rental tenants and homeowners, as such it was hard to characterise the average tenant and people's tenure on the street fluctuated greatly. Despite a lot of common issues I found it hard to motivate people to action, but on reflection I'd put this down to my lack of experience rather than a lack of ability or desire in the community.
Loves: The colourful houses, Front gardens, Many people felt able to talk to neighbours, A good social mix
Dislikes: Dog mess (significant problem in the area, particularly in alleyways leading to other streets), Smallscale drug dealing happening in an alleyway at one end of street, Some people on the eastern side reported frustration at neighbours using pavement to store belongings (motorbikes, pushchairs, large flower pots) which sometimes blocked access, Lack of parking (owing to narrowness of street there is only parking space available on the western side, also the council have turned a lot of town centre parking into pay and display meaning residents must pay to park on adjacent streets, despite being entitled to a parking permit, street specific, when paying council tax)
