Many of the older, Regency type houses feature single glazed windows and doors which loose heat rapidly in the winter. This makes these houses expensive to heat, consuming excess energy and thus releasing more carbon into the local atmosphere. Unfortunately, the buildings are listed and cannot be altered. This is felt to be a decision which is ultimately environmentally unfriendly.
