Phoenix DAS is a voluntary sector body, affiliated to Respect. It has offered the Youth Respect Program as part of a multi-agency partnership since August 2013.
CRITERIA Catchment area: All of Gwent. Age range: 11 – 18 years. Parents are also offered support from our parenting officer, and restorative family sessions take place to make sustainable changes.
REFERRAL Referrals accepted from families or professionals. Families are then contacted for an initial assessment.
ASSESSMENT Assessment forms are completed by the youth respect worker and parenting worker at the initial stage of engagement, looking at risk, needs, consent, and engagement. The risk assessment is multi-layered and looks at various aspects of the family dynamic and family relationships.
THE SERVICE The service offers 1-2-1 and groupwork sessions (where safe and appropriate) . Parents receive direct parenting support from our Parenting Officer. Periodic restorative family sessions are then arranged where appropriate.
This is a bespoke service, and so will be offered wherever is appropriate to the particular family. The programme has been developed to include a range of approaches to meet individual needs, such as motivational interviewing, CBT, NLP, and learning from Respect and Safer Lives. A tool kit is available to those trained in the approach. Work continues as is needed. There is no fixed length.
EVALUATION As well as internal evaluation by service users, the programme has been evaluated by Cardiff University. The report is publicly available. (http://orca.cf.ac.uk/72876/)
