THE AGENCY Maidstone Mediation has been offering a service for families experiencing CPV since 2003. It is a voluntary sector organisation affiliated to the Restorative Justice Council.
CRITERIA Catchment area: Maidstone area up to East Morling and Snodland. Age: No upper limits. Referrals accepted from young teenagers upwards. Parties need to be willing to engage and to change.
REFERRAL Self referral or any agency or organisation, by phone or form.
ASSESSMENT An initial assessment to see if the case is suitable for mediation. No conflict of interest or risk of serious harm at the time of the mediation process.
THE SERVICE Talk and Mend offers a service to both parent and child, working initially with the referred client but sometimes broadening out to include the extended family. Meetings normally take place in the community support centre; online during the COVID pandemic. Mediation skills, CBT and solution focused brief therapy skills are used over a six-week intervention period. Anger management sessions are also available either before or after the Talk and Mend programme. Further sessions can be offered if felt useful.
EVALUATION Evaluation is completed with clients at the end of the programme to monitor behavioural and attitudinal change.
