The Child Psychology Service has been working with families affected by child to parent abuse for the last 10 years. Funding is typically through the Adoption Support Fund and so not specifically time limited.

CRITERIA Catchment: Nationally online, but if families require face to face work, then within 1.5 hours of Lichfield or St Albans.

Age: All children and young people up to the age of 25 (according to ASF criteria)

REFERRAL AND ASSESSMENT All referrals judged on a case by case basis. From a family or social worker, but would need to liaise with a Local Authority or Adoption Team to secure funding. Some background information is needed. This is typically the Adoption Support Assessment for adoptive families. Assessment is usually a full psychological assessment or an MDT including psychology and sensory integration. Risk assessments undertaken for each family. The waiting time varies, but is confirmed at point of referral.

THE SERVICE Work is with both parents and young people (though with NVR this would typically be with parents only), and can take place in both group and one to one sessions. Meetings are online or face to face in homes, as well as meeting rooms / clinical space as needed. The service primarily uses NVR and DDP. However, we are mainly Clinical and Counselling Psychologists and so we are trained across several models and use them flexibly with families according to their needs based on bespoke formulation.

TRAINING Can be offered to individuals or other agencies.

EVALUATION We have a robust outcomes programme and we regularly collect satisfaction feedback.

We are family-focused and we’re experienced in this area. We will listen and we will care and we won’t stop until you’re happy that we’ve helped you!
