Policy:

-Prevents businesses and other institutions sending organic waste to landfill after 1 tonne of waste has been produced (resetting on a weekly basis)

-1700 of the state’s biggest food generators instructed to divert their organic waste from landfill and incinerator

-Businesses that exceed the specified 1 tonne limit must divert any excess waste material to disposal by other methods such as composting, conversion, animal feed, recycling, donation etc.

-Impacts of policy: Large reduction of food waste, large scale employment in recycling factories and composting plants
