Groups involved - The companies and communities that help this project are Ritzy Brixton, Odd Box, Franco Manca, City Harvest London, Burnt toast Café, Impact HUB Brixton and Pop Brixton.

Background - Problem in the western world, the UK alone produces 5m tonnes per year food waste which highlight of our wasteful community, to combat that we need to find new ways to reuse food or share what is given which will help take pressure off food banks and charities in the UK. This project manages food waste. by giving people access to community fridge where the can give and take food for free.

Aims - Their aims are to make sure that unnecessary food waste is seen as a problem for the whole community and not a distant problem and to decrease hunger in poorer communities without judgment. Additionally, to incorporate more healthy food choices without the fear of it being more expensive, from vegetable and fruit donations.

Resources recycled - This project collects food products and fresh produce which are unwanted or are close to their used by date, thus the products can be put into the local fridge to be used by someone who wants it, without bias and judgment. Volunteers check and monitor the fridge every morning and evening.

Social impacts - Socially it has inspired many locals to waste less and to help support those less fortunate in their community.

Economic impacts - 33% of locals said that they check the fridge before grocery shopping as the food is free and the work is for volunteering.

Environmental impacts - It helps locals and businesses produce less food waste and helps use be more sustainable with our food. Local businesses state they give 37% of their waste to The People’s Fridge.
