Groups involved - Yeli Paper Bags Limited, Andrew Mupuya
Background - Established by Andrew Mupuya after plastic bags were banned in Uganda, set up a business to make paper bags from profits made from selling plastic bottles. Now the business produces 20,000 paper bags each week and employs over 20 people.
Aims – To provide high quality paper bags and envelopes, to be the leading manufacturer of paper, paper bags, envelopes and packaging boxes in Africa.
Resources recycled – Recycled paper to make the paper bags and envelopes
Social impacts – Employs over 50 local people directly
Economic impacts – Locally produced products therefor profits and revenue go back into the local community and Uganda as a whole
Environmental impacts – Limited use of unused paper resources, majority being reused limiting their accountability of removal of tress and consequent environmental impacts. As an alternative to plastic bags and being recycled after use less environmental impacts and processing required
