Working with the insight of Eastbourne’s Health and Environment Manager**, Paul Quanstrom**, University of Brighton 3D Design Student Craig Barrow has produced a simplified sun tallyer, in the hope of engaging Eastbourne’s population in its town unique meteorological identity.
Eastbourne’s manual weather station has been submitting continuous daily weather records to the Met Office since 1867. Officially the “UK’s sunniest place”, the Campbell Stokes Sunshine Recorder, situated on the roof of the station, produces daily sun cards: a burnt path created by the magnification of the suns rays, displaying the intensity across different points of the day
The fascinating, yet so simple, technology that is used to tally up the sunshine hours that contributes to keeping their town’s title of the UK’s sunniest place. Now, using the new system the public can capture their-own piece of Eastbourne sunshine.
The product could have transferability and value in representing any particular special day and locaility for a memorial, special occasion or souvenir.
