The Real Junk Food Project is an organisation that uses food that is no longer going to be used and would otherwise become waste to create healthy meals.
The organisation visit events and collects any leftover food and ingredients that would otherwise be thrown away. They then either give ready made foods to homeless people or use collected ingredients to create foods to then sell at St. Luke's Church in Preston Park.
Customers are given the option to pay a price they are happy to pay, or not pay at all, and visitors are even given the option to provide a service in return for any food consumed.
The organisation contributes to environmental citizenship by promoting the use of foods that are still in a condition suitable for consumption, even if it has passed the use by date given by supermarkets. This in turn reduces the impact of food production on the environment as less will need to be produced, and at the same time helps feed people in need.
