Brighton & Hove food partnership

Aim- This organisation aims to reduce the amount of local food waste and educate/provide advice to those on how to do so as well as encouraging populations to eat healthy for their own well-being via the food strategy of 'Space to Spoon: Digging Deeper' created in 2006 and the refreshed in 2012.

Background- Brighton and Hove Food Partnership is an independent non-profit organisation first set up in 2003 and now has over 20 staff delivering a range of products, with food partnerships now set up in Bournemouth, Greenwich, Hackney, Lambeth, Peterborough and Portsmouth.

Benefits/Why does it link to Environmental Citizenship - This organisation links to Environmental Citizenship via the fact that it aids the environment due to reductions in food waste as well as helping the well-being of the public through a number of community projects, these include: - Cookery Courses -Advice on reducing food waste - Healthy eating workshops -Aiding those to grow food -Setting up community composting sites -Helping food banks by providing food -Weight management programmes

Facts and Figures- - They have received recognition from the National Lottery Awards, the Local Food Awards, the local 'Sector Stars' awards and the House of Commons Select Committee on Sustainable Food. - Brighton & Hove was one of the first cities in the UK to take a citywide, strategic approach to food issues.
