Brunswick is one of the most densely populated areas of Brighton with 1,662 residents (UK Local Area). The housing of the area is made up of Regency houses built in the 1820s by architect Charles Ausgustin Busby. The houses are tightly packed and some have small gardens. This community garden is located in front of the Brunswick Place housing development and brings the local people together, as volunteers are vital to the running of it; encouraging them to care for their local environment. It can also be seen as a social area at the same time engaging citizens with the 'natural world' and protecting it.
The relates to environmental citizenship as it encourages citizens to be more pro-active in their involvement in the environment and taking care of it.
