Friends of Queens park have installed 6 swift nests boxes in the grade 2 listed clock building, the project was headed by Chris Lowe. This is a form of conservation was jointly funded by the Brighton and Hove council aswell as Friends of Queens park in 2009. As Only 10 percent of Swift look for nests an mp3 is played to attract new comers in. Why ? Simply because swift populations have falled by upto 50% since 1995.
Around the park there are other nesting boxes places on trees and also nest boxes places on the island within the pond for other birds including the Greater Spotted Woodpecker, Grey Wagtail, Redwing and Wheatear, mallards and cootes.
