The bikes racks are very close to the main road and Churchill square and therefore provide good access for storing bikes, encouraging local people to use bikes on a daily basis to travel through Brighton town centre, and discourage them from using cars and other vehicles that produce large amounts of emissions. This is a deliberate engagement of local citizens to be actively involved in helping maintain and protect the environment. Improved cycle lanes throughout Brighton have also further encouraged people to cycle regularly. Labour MP Peter Kyle also mentioned that there may be future implementation of Boris Bikes which are affordable, easily accessible and will help reduce emissions.
This encourages environmental citizenship as it is involving members of the community to use 0 emission modes of transport, rather than cars - thus helping towards reducing climate change.
