The recycling bins are in a very accessible location encouraging residents within the local area to sort and dispose of their waste accordingly. To further encourage the use of these recycling bins every extra tonne of waste reduced or recycled, Brighton and Hove with contribute 15 pounds to a grant scheme that community groups and charities can bid for. This creates a reward system encouraging those that may not already recycle for environmental benefits to do so as well. The materials that can be recycled at these points in separate bins are: 1. Cans, tins, aerosols (with the lids removed) 2. Cardboard 3. Glass bottles and jars (lids removed) 4. Paper 5. Plastic bottles 6. Shoes 7. Cartons 8. Textiles 9. Electrical items
By having recycling bins in a very central area promotes the use of the recycling bins and by having a lot of different types of bins it covers a wide range of rubbish that can be recycled. This is citizenship for the environment because it enhances the use of recycling bins which is more sustainable for the environment.
