Beach 'clean-ups' generate plastics which when reprocessed into flip-flops add value to the material through local provenence, social cohesion and community engagament. The resulting objects have greater 'emotional durability' and 'pride-of-place' that helps to form long term attachment for product longevity and raises the profile of the plastic pollutant.
