It is well documented that adults with learning disabilities find the use of public transport, buses in particular, challenging and, at times, distressing (Hall 2004, Corr McEvoy & Keenan 2013).
The applied nature of the research and focus on user involvement is highly compatible with the School of Applied Social Sciences approach. In particular it is relevant to the Care, Health and Well-being research area as it will examine the lived experience of people with LD, seeking to understand well-being issues that specifically relate to use of public transport.
The project is cross-cultural, aiming to examine the contextual factors that impact on everyday experiences of LD. The project is therefore also relevant to the Culture, Identity and Society research area.
