Built in 1216 St Nicolas has been a place of Pilgrimage, Prayer and Peace in nine centuries. It is a fine example of Early English architecture, with many historic monuments and artefacts. Six bells, the earliest dating from the sixteenth century, are rung every Sunday. The large churchyard has a number of historic memorials and contains a profusion of wild flowers.

Sunday worship, at 11.00am, is sung Eucharist according to the 1662 Book of Common Prayer and to a high Anglican tradition. Traditional hymn-singing is led by a full organ and four-part choir. The church is also a popular venue for weddings and christenings: for details apply to the Rector.

St Nicolas church is open for visitors every day of the year from 7.30am until dusk. Walk-around guides, post cards and take-away descriptive leaflets are available.

Loop system. Disabled access. Adequate parking and Public Toilets close by.

The church is well known for its fine acoustics, making it popular with many visiting choirs and musicians. Several concerts are held each year, with local and visiting artists filling the church. A highlight of the church's year is the Flower Festival held over the weekend of the August Bank Holiday. This event, together with the Summer Fete on the Saturday, draws in visitors from a very wide area.
