University works with Moulsecoomb residents to promote local, healthy food

Small project started in July 2015 to bring together students and locals working together to bring sustainable, local, healthy food to the area.

Long term vision: create local food communities around all five Brighton university campuses.

Methods Food co-op where all participants combine purchasing power to reduce local produce price Fun food events such as markets and film screenings Volunteering opportunities, helping to run evens or joining a community garden.

Moulsecoomb chosen as it is a seperated community with little fresh, local food in the area yet at the same time there is high potential to change this.

The University also works with the Halls of Residence to encourage students to recycle through a point system with rewards.

The University takes part in Environmental Citizenship through working with the local farmers to source produce and also with the University Students to become environmental aware with their waste.
