Albion In The Community

FOOTBALL Brighton and Hove Albion's community project (Albion in the Community) deliver a huge range of football programmes – from fun-based soccer schools for girls and boys, to a comprehensive player development programme, closely linked with the club’s academy, and innovative programmes for people with disabilities. They use football to help people get their lives back on track, dealing with homelessness and unemployment. They use football to help people deal with mental health issues, or get back into exercise and improve their health.

SCHOOLS AITC has been successfully working with schools across Sussex for many years now. They are in a unique position to use the power of sport and the reach of BHAFC to help motivate learners and extend their school education. They offer a wide range of programmes for 5 to 18 year olds – from curriculum PE and after school clubs, to innovative cross-curricular programmes that engage young people in creative ways to learn. AITC help young people across Sussex enjoy and understand the benefits of sport and develop a positive attitude to learning that will take them into adulthood.

HEALTH AITC are working hard to improve the health and wellbeing of people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds across Sussex. Together with the local authority, NHS and third sector partners, they run a wide range of targeted health projects and initiatives throughout the county. These include, •Healthy Lifestyles (including fun exercise classes, weight management sessions, and wellbeing coaching) •Mental health and wellbeing •Disease awareness and prevention (including work around cancer awareness and pre-diabetes programmes).

DISABILITY They have been running the award-winning disability programme since 1997. It's now the largest provider of disability sport in Sussex - giving more people than ever the chance to take part in both fun and competitive sport. They focus on each individual’s abilities, ensuring our programmes are inclusive for all. The coaches are committed to enabling children, young people and adults with additional needs to have the opportunity to enjoy sport and achieve their goals. Ultimately they help people enjoy the benefits of becoming part of a team, making new friends, improving their communication skills and growing in confidence.

This is citizenship because The Albion are actively encouraging people to take part within community activities and taking note of what is happening around them.
