The absence of public transport links directly along the seafront means that members of the public are more likely to use a car to travel. This causes direct environmental pressures through emissions, as well as causing congestion at peak times. As well as the 'standard' emissions expected when using cars, large volumes of traffic mean engines are running and emitting for longer, further damaging the environment.
One way to potentially increase environmental citizenship in Brunswick is to put bus routes in place along the seafront. Increasing public transport links between the Brunswick ward and Hove, as well as Brighton City Centre, would encourage a reduction in harmful emissions, and reduce congestion for the local residents. Potential conflict with those who choose to drive their own vehicles could be avoided by using specific bus lanes along the sea front to avoid delays.
