This project aimed to develop and deliver opportunities for final year students to get involved in projects that support and develop the use of technology in community and voluntary organisations.
Project Outline
The School of Computing, Mathematics & Information Science (CMIS) at the University of Brighton worked together with SCIP and @ctive student to develop and deliver opportunities for final year students to get involved in projects that support and develop the use of technology in community and voluntary organisations.
Students with expertise in the use of technology carried out projects identified by the host organisation. Their work got assessed as part of their University course. Students were supervised by experienced academics from the School and maintain a partnership with the host organisation throughout the year.
In this way, the Community Project achieved mutual benefit to both the student and the organisation alike. The student benefits from learning in the community whilst the organisation benefits from a dedicated, supported, skilled student to carry out information or communication based projects within their organisation.
