The Energy Group chose 4 common housing types in Barcombe Parish to get properly energy assessed and to make recommendations as to how they may be improved for energy efficiency.
This type of house can be seen on GRANTHAM BANK as well as other locations around the village and they have cavity walls and red brick or timber and tile clad. Made in the 1970's or 80's.
If your house is like this then you may wish to look at the suggestions made for energy efficiency improvements. Please note these are only suggestions and although we have used an expert assessor to calculate savings and costs they are only here as an estimate to help you.
Roof insulation is a quick win if you have access to the loft and can save you money on your energy bills (an average household such as this up to £300 (with cavity wall insulation) per year). These Barcombe properties all have lofts suitable for insulation. In The LEAF project we insulated over 70 homes and are monitoring the benefit.
If your loft insulation has not been topped up for some time you will probably be able to top up for free during 2012 .

These types of Barcombe housing can benefit from cavity wall insulation and whilst this is often a bit more complicated than loft insulation, it is also a quick route to energy efficiency and heat retension in your home.
Cavity wall insulation usually entails having a heat insulating material (often paper or polystyrene) pumped into the cavity between the inner and out skin of your home, provising a warm blanket that traps warm air in and keeps cold air out.
If you would like to have your property assessed as to it's potential for cavity wall insulation contact us at the Barcombe Energy Club and we will help you with this.

Floor insulation is less common but similar in principle to loft and cavity wall insulation. It is potentially more difficult to install sue to the inconvenience and issues of gaining access in an occupied property.
