Possible wood fuel resource

Wood as a fuel is close to being Carbon-neutral, especially when locally sourced
and, as such, has the capacity to substitute for a proportion of fossil
fuel consumption in Barcombe Parish, particularly when used for heating in
the winter.

Barcombe Parish has a plentiful resource of woodland suitable for increasing
the proportion of renewable energy produced from sustainable management
of this fundamentally renewable resource.

There are several ways that this supply chain can be improved but this will
require involvement between Barcombe Energy Group and liaison with local
estates, farmers and forestry contractors to mobilise them to harvest and
process this material into quality wood fuel.

In addition to the woodland area within the boundaries of Barcombe Parish
there is considerable potential for wood production from neighbouring
parishes, which include some significant areas of managed woodland, such
as Plashett Wood in Isfield, which already generates significant volumes of
hardwood cordwood as part of the annual forest management cycle.
