All houses in Brunswick square are grade 2 and 2 star, meaning they are unsustainable and lose heat energy easily. This could be due to the old age of these Regency buildings, which were built in 1795-1837. Therefore they are likely to have single glazed windows and out-of-date roof insulation or no cavity wall insulation.
When studying the whole of the Ward, it is interesting to note that it is almost completely a conservation area, so the use of energy efficiency due to the architecture would have a detriment to the environment.
Yet when engaging with local residents although many are very proud and attracted to the architecture it does prohibit renovation and alterations that could have lower environmental impact. However, due to the priority of the historical legacy the architecture provides these environmental impacts (such as excessive use of energy to large heat loss) from the building continue even though the council and residents alike are aware of the damage being caused.
