Leaf Hall Community Arts Centre - Community Takeover - Why Vote discussion hosted by Eastbourne Peop

Every Wednesday lunchtime at Leaf Hall Community Arts Centre - Brighton Students Union Community Organiser project extends an open invitation to individuals, groups and residents to use this space in whatever way they choose.

The aim is to get people talking about things that matter to them and provide an opportunity for them to talk further about any actions they might take to bring about positive change.

One of the best attended events was a discussion hosted by local group Eastbourne People's Assembly. The discussion was called WHY VOTE which aimed to look at issues around why people either do or do not use their vote. The people who came to the discussion (16 in all) were particularly interested in why young people aged between 18 and 25 did not appear to use their vote. Although this event didn't manage to attract that age group - the group felt that from conversations they had with young people that they didn't vote for the following reasons:

1) Not enough information about candidates. 2) Could not make distinctions between different political parties 3) Were not on electoral register

Peoples Assembly also visited the Students Union bar at Eastbourne Campus for a follow up event in the hope of meeting students and finding out more about what young people thought!
