Potential Houshold Anaerobic Digestion site

Information about anearobic digestion

Anaerobic digestion

This is the process where natural waste such as manure, food, garden waste and sewage produces gas as it rots. This biogas can be captured and used with the remaining rotted material having uses as fertiliser. The biogas captured is mainly methane, one of the worst greenhouse gases ( did you know Methane is 28 times more destructive to the ozone than CO2) so using it for heating and generating electricity is a really positive move. The whole AD process has another great benefit in improving water quality in our rivers through removing harmful waste matter that would eventually leach into the rivers.

There are options for both dry and wet AD systems in Barcombe. The Sutton Hall dairy herds could produce enough manure for a wet system that also provides an improved fertiliser for farm use and benefits the Ouse floodplain. There is also the possibility of small scale dry systems in the village area.
