Stanmer Park and Estate

What & who The park was once owned by Stanmer House as its estate. In 1947 it was sold to the Brighton area council for public use. So you can amongst others, go for walks, play sporting activities such as football or even have a picnic! It also is a Local Nature Reserve and so the local nature of the area is well protected.

There have been recent developments in terms of the Park and Estate's lottery bids for funding. The Park and Estate won two bids in January 2017 which are for the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery Fund's 'Parks for People' programme. This will allow very significant restorations of area to take place. The restoration and preservation from these £3.75 million fundings will begin in 2018. The program will be run by Brighton & Hove City Parks Projects Team. The aims from the fundings are to preserve and protect its 18th century features such as Stanmer House and the landscape and to improve the environment, improve accessibility, and provide opportunities for involvement and education. In addition, the aim is to make sure the park is managed in a way that is sustainable and reflects the needs of everyone.

They funding specifically focuses on the restoration of: the entrance and parkland of Stanmer House, the Home Farm Complex and the Walled Garden. This shows environmental citizenship in that the project involves the restoration of land that is also of heritage importance.

In terms of accessibility, you can visit the park any day or time in the year and so accessibility is very good.
