Bus Services

What it is: Brighton & Hove buses, the main bus supplier for Hollingdean, was established in 1884. There are now 17 local bus services from Hollingdean which arrive every 15 minutes at their peak, providing vital sustainable transport to and from services and for commuters in Hollingdean and the surrounding areas.

What they do: Over £4m has been won by the city council to improve Lewes Road, which is amongst the worst areas for air quality in Brighton. The abundance and accessibility of buses has aided in reducing congestion on the busy stretch Road as well as attempting to combat air pollution in the area. Hybrid buses were one of the investments made by the council which will use less fuel, produce less pollution and create less noise. The bus produces no emissions when operating under electric power.

Suggestions to Citizens: Although buses are recommended over car travel, the University collected feedback from students which concluded that fares are expensive and some services are infrequent and unreliable. The Brighton and Hove Bus company have an extremely informative and professional website providing: bus times, route planners and live times. There is also an app on which you can purchase electronic bus tickets which reduces queue times. Brightons bus lanes means that journey times could be significantly reduced on such a congested stretch of road.
