University of Brighton - C-Change recycling

C-Change: Aims: The university aims to create a zero waste culture across all the university sites. By promoting 'rethink, reduce, reuse and recycle' it is helping create more environmentally friendly campuses and hopes to achieve its target of 75% recycling. Initiatives: The University of Brighton has invested large amounts of money in to its recycling facilities. One of these being that all bins come in pairs, one for recycling and the other for waste. This helps students make a conscious decision every time they throw away materials at university. Warp-It is an online platform which helps staff redistribute a surplus of resources, for example any reusable furniture and stationary. Campaigns: The university held a campaign to promote recycling in halls residences through a competition. This competition would involve students actively sorting their waste for collection and then gaining rewards in return for their contribution. By doing this competition it incentivises students and raises awareness for students who may have knowledge of recycling but are not actively involved. The Reuse Project 2016 was a project for students who are moving to give away their unwanted possessions to other students so they can be reused. Items such as clothes, computer games, cosmetics and electrical equipment were donated by students.
