Mouslecoomb Forest Garden and Wildlife Project

Background Information

Set up in 1994. First plot, behind the railway station, was given to them rent free for a year due to it having been derelict for the past 20 years. Since then, in October 2014, they have 9 plots growing organic food which is grown using the compost bins there. In regards to energy they aim to ‘promote sustainable lifestyles by encouraging and educating people about the benefits of organic gardening, locally produced food and composting’. Thus reducing the miles that food is transported and also enforcing knowledge into a community which will hopefully be reciprocated throughout future generations.

Contribution to environmental Citizenship:

Within the community the project enforces the importance of buying locally sourced produce or growing it themselves. They encourage people of all ages to participate and, especially for the younger individuals, install a lifestyle choice which may be reciprocated in the future, for example growing their own produce when they have a family.
