This area that was first conceptualized in 1970 and has since been extended on multiple occasions including; 1971, 1980 and 1981.

This area covers 32.58 hectares, and this is the protected area that Preston Park falls into.

This is an example of environmental citizenship because the area protection means that more interest is taken to ensure that the park remains in good condition and there is less likely to be building work that is granted permission in the surrounding parts of the ward, to protect the natural area.
