Friends of Blakers

Blakers Park was donated to Brighton with the purpose of "free use and enjoyment of the inhabitants and visitors for the purposes of recreation."

Since that point (in 1989) the Friends of Blakers Park was founded to protect from the proposed plan to lay a hard surface over part of the grass area and shrink down the playground. This was successfully disputed and now Friends has expanded with the set goal to enhance the park.

This is an example of Environmental Citizenship as they work with the Council to keep the park up to scratch, improve the park through our planting programme, put on community events and support neighbourhood organisations and community groups that wish to use the park.
