Swift Nests

Introduction

These days many spices of birds are in dangerous of extinction, so organizations have been trying to protect them either by fighting for new policies or creating conditions to help the species.

Body

The Brighton and hove council alongside with friends of queens park funded a project of conservation to protect swift birds. The project was headed by Chris Lowe and consisted of swift boxes which were installed around the park to attract to shift to come in and breed. Since 1995 the swift population fell by up to 50%, so projects like this help to protect the species.

Around the park 6 swift nests boxes were installed in the grade 2 listed clock and it works by emitting sounds to attract them.

Around the park there are other nesting boxes placed on trees and also nest boxes place on the island within the pond for other birds including the Greater Spotted Woodpecker, Grey Wagtail, Redwing and Wheatear, mallards and coots.
