6. Street-based Youth Work (Detached Youth Work)

Ensuring that we meet the young people who choose not to come to our building based provision is really important to us. Sometimes street-socialising young people are the most vulnerable and open to taking risks, whether that be to do with criminal/anti-social behaviour or use of drugs and alcohol. We aim to be there to support them in the parks, in the roads and hanging around outside buildings.

In the last year we have had support from Sussex Police with this work and helped to reduce the average number of anti-social behaviour complaints in Moulsecoomb by a quarter. We did this whilst helping vulnerable young people to access regular, supportive provision and make more positive choices for them and the community whilst being ‘detached’ from clubs and activities.
