In September and October 2016 we hosted 2 FREE events for different groups to come together to share their experience of using the Community Rights established in the Localism Act 2011.
We had representatives from Reclaim the Lectern Group, Bungaroosh, The Dyke, Friends of Westdene Green, among others.
These meetings resulted in the production of a report about the Community Right to Bid, which is the community right that has been mostly used around Brighton&Hove. This report will be shared with the Council and soon it will be accessible here.
The event was hosted in the PlaceMaker Space at FIELD Brighton, which is a 'meanwhile space' and an excellent example of the positive things that can be done with unused lands or buildings. The food and drinks were provided by Old Tree, which is a social enterprise based at FIELD.
'Meanwhile Space': "MEANWHILE was defined by Meanwhile Space CIC during the Meanwhile Project (2009) as the opportunity presented by the period of time a property or space is left empty. As a concept, Meanwhile encompasses the philosophy that empty space is wrong and can be used to create opportunities for people"
