Some early feedback on our recent NP Questionnaire is shown below:
There are to date a total of 335 responses of which 281 represent Upper Beeding, 51 represent Small Dole and 3 represent Edburton. Unfortunately none were received from Truleigh Hill. Of those returned 10 represented businesses in the Parish. The majority were returned as hard copies with 21 being done on line.
The response to what things most need improving was interesting:
– 73% Cement Works
– 47% Traffic Speed
– 37% Activities for Teenagers
– 26% Public Transport
– 26% Affordable Housing
Perhaps we should focus on these as the key requirements to cover in our plan.
Next Steps: This is really to continue our Community Engagement & Involvement. So far we have publicised we are going to produce a plan, we have told people what the plan is all about and got some feed back from people as to what they want/would like to see in our Plan for the Parish. We therefore need to consider how we:
– Analyse the results of our Questionnaire
– Advertise / Distribute the results of Questionnaire
– Formulate a programme of community engagement
– Identify local partners and stakeholders (local businesses, landowners, minority groups, educational establishments, health and social care, owners of key sites or organisations
– Establish our agreed Focus Groups
– Set Up some day / evening events both in UB & Small Dole where residents & businesses can drop by to see us and talk to the Focus groups re: their concerns and aspirations.
– Once we have covered the above we should be in a position to know what should be in our plan
As you can realise there is a lot of data to analyse to gauge the wants and concerns of you the people of the Parish. I’m not sure though whether 10% is a true representation of what people want or do we just decide that the other 90% are happy with what is available to them for now and in the future.

Your Neighbourhood Plan offers you several advantages and opportunities to influence and control development in your area. They are led by the parish and town councils and involve engaging with all residents, community groups and service providers serving your community. The plan will have to be accepted by the community through a referendum hence the crucial element of getting them on board and informing them of progress throughout the process.
Engage with all organisations, departments, local partners and residents to improve dialogue and negotiations which could help with the future development and implementation of your plan policies and proposals.
