THE AGENCY Compassion offers a number of services to support those who have experienced domestic abuse and child to parent violence and abuse in Suffolk. Included in their offer, they have been running Who’s in Charge? groups since 2014.

CRITERIA Catchment area: West and South Suffolk for f2f groups. No age limit. Also making programmes accessible to parents across the UK who haven’t got a local service or WIC? programme.

REFERRAL and ASSESSMENT Referral is from a parent or agency practitioner, by form. An assessment of suitability will be undertaken by meeting and talking with the parents prior to attendance at the group. There may be a waiting time until the next group starts.

THE SERVICE Programmes and support are currently taking online. While Compassion works with both parents and children, the Who’s in Charge? groups are for parents only. The three-month programme follows a manual developed by Eddie Gallagher, and uses a combination of approaches including solution focused and narrative work and CBT; aiming to restore self-confidence in the parent, a more healthy parent-child relationship and elimination of violence.

EVALUATION Internal evaluations are undertaken to determine the efficacy of the programme.
