THE AGENCY IDAS is a voluntary domestic violence organisation, affiliated to Women’s Aid. It has been offering the Respect programme since 2012.

CRITERIA Catchment: North Yorkshire. Age: 10 – 18 The young person is displaying behaviours which can be seen as abusvie towards a family member or partner. Referrals would be declined if the young person was considered high risk, eg using weapons, and they would be better suited to another agency such as the Youth Offending Service.

REFERRAL and ASSESSMENT Referral by anyone, including by phone call. Own assessment is completed, including risk factors and likely engagement. There is no waiting list and an attempt is made to contact families within 72 working hours of referral. Families are assessed and receive telephone support before they start the Respect programme. The family and young person are assessed separately to undertake safety planning with them, using the DASH assessment and a support-related risk assessment to ensure safety for the worker and client.

THE SERVICE Work is offered with both parent and young person in groups and / or on a one-to-one basis, in the office, school, or in the community, and in the family home following a ask assessment. Work follows the Respect programme, using a combination of intervention types. Families are usually seen for up to 12 weeks, but sometimes longer depending on family circumstances and availability. Telephone support, before the programme begins, may last for 3 - 6 months. There is also a parenting group for family members accessing the telephone support.

EVALUATION The performance of the project is monitored quarterly both internally and by funders. Output and outcome data is available to see in our end of year report
