Valuing Environmental Action 2014-16

Brighton Peace & Environment Centre, Values and Sustainability Research Group and Brighton Student’s Union (Bright N’ Green Project)

This project seeks to bring together complementary expertise in research in values-led evaluation and energy consumption analysis from university partners, the implementation of a values-driven ‘low carbon’ behaviour change project in Brighton and Hove led by BPEC (Brighton Peace and Environment Centre), and student community engagement in sustainability issues through the Bright’N’Green project. This project provides a unique opportunity to feed into a 2-year city-wide campaign (2014-16) funded by Brighton and Hove City Council and delivered by BPEC in partnership with Brighton & Hove 10:10. It includes the development of a bespoke programme for organisations and delivery of four community ‘Carbon Conversations’ courses.

Partners from the Values and Sustainability Research Group (VSRG) will work with the project coordinator and volunteers from the Brighton Peace and Environment Centre (BPEC) to develop and co-design a values-led evaluation framework for the BPEC behaviour change programme. BPEC and VSRG will also work with the council to develop a complementary analysis using energy usage data to complement the qualitative evaluation. BPEC and partners from the Bright’N’Green team (Brighton Students’ Union) will work together to recruit students for a community ‘Carbon Conversations’ course, which will develop opportunities for further training and development to become course facilitators and continue to be involved in related community activities.
