Stanmer House

Stanmer House is a Georgian Manor House. It's a historical property built in the Georgian era, specifically 1722. It was built for the Pelham family by French architect Nicholas Dubois.

Much of the original earlier house has been preserved though some has been altered overtime. For example, the house was altered in 1860 and in the early 2000s there were restorations that were completed in 2006.

The house has been owned and run by several other occupants such as by the University of Sussex for admin purposes and by Whiting and Hammond pub group.

It is presently owned by another group called Proud Country House. They took over in 2016 and have provided a sub-Michelin level restaurant and boutique hotel.

So they're aim is to run a restaurant and boutique hotel however, they work closely with the Stanmer Preservation Society in terms of preservation of the house. Some of the funding for Stanmer Estate Restoration Project will also go towards the restoration of the house. Specifically, there will be developments to restore the entrance and parkland of Stanmer House. This shows they're contribution to environmental citizenship in that they are involved in sustainable environmental action.
