During the 1990's a whale became beached by loch an rúin in Oranmore. The whale unfortunately died on the shore and the county council had the problem of getting rid of the carcus. They attempted to burn the whale using tyres however this attempt failed. In the end a local farmer dug a giant whole and placed the carcus inside. If you go digging today you may find some bones!!!
