Michael Hall School

A Distinctive Education Our Value Statement

“Inspired by the Waldorf vision of childhood, our education values and celebrates each stage of development, facilitating each child's gradual self-realisation as part of a social whole. We are dedicated to harmonising the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of each of our pupils in a way that gives them the confidence, resilience and insight to make a positive difference in the world throughout their lives. As the longest-running Waldorf School in the world, offering a proven and progressive alternative to the pressurised approach to education, we continually work at deepening our teaching practice, the better to realise the aims stated above.”

What qualities will your child need to flourish as an adult in today’s world? They will need to be articulate, creative, self-reliant, skilled at listening, imaginative and inquisitive. Every lesson at Michael Hall is designed to enhance and develop these qualities in your child.

For over 85 years we have consistently provided an inspirational, rigorous and nourishing educational environment for children from birth to 18 years. The school is divided into 3 faculties:

Early Years 0 - 6yrs Lower School 7 - 14 yrs Upper School 15 - 18 yrs

With a deep understanding of child development, a broad curriculum and creative methodology, we place the changing needs of your child at the centre of our work. We give equal attention to the physical, emotional, intellectual, cultural and spiritual needs of your child and the curriculum is designed to work in harmony with the different phases of your child's development. When your child is developmentally ready our experience has shown that learning comes easily and joyfully.

The core subjects of the curriculum are taught in thematic blocks (Main Lessons) and all lessons include a balance of artistic, practical and intellectual content. Whole class, mixed ability teaching is the norm.

As an established Steiner School in the UK all of our students participate in all the Steiner Waldorf curriculum subjects throughout their school life. The purpose of studying a subject is not to make a student into a professional mathematician, historian, or biologist, but to stimulate and nourish the capacities that every adult needs.

Michael Hall students have a reputation for being well-rounded and balanced individuals who are able to cope with the demands of a fast-changing and uncertain world. Graduates are highly sought-after in further education and in the work place for their confidence, resourcefulness, social responsibility and enthusiasm.
