Moulsecoomb Community Farm

Aim: Test feasibility of developing a community farm on a piece of land near Moulsecoomb station which has previously been deprived.

Goal: The long term goal is to create a small mixed farming project (horticulture, livestock, orchard timber etc) on a commercially viable scale, which still engages and provides benefits to the local community.

Benefits: The land in the past has been fly tipped and attracts anti-social behavioir such as motor bikers. The project is a great opportunity to address these issues and build an area of respect for the land which was previously deprived. Additional benefits include provision of training and the chance to volunteer for local young people including residents or students. Lastly, it provides the ability to sell locally grown produce for affordable prices.

Project Partners: Clare Devereux (Food Matters) Professor Neil Ravenscroft (School of Environment & Technology) Dave Murtagh (East Moulsecoomb Tenants Association) Becky Taylor (Plumpton College)

This contributes to environmental citizenship as it targets the issues of building on land that has been previously deprived and includes the opportunity for volunteering within the community.
